DESCRIPTION
A very scarce first edition, illustrated with a portrait frontispiece.
This volume contains Sallusts works Catilines Conspiracy, The Orations of Cicero Against Catiline, and The War Against Jugurtha. These works look at the Catiline conspiracy, an attempt to overthrow the Roman Republic, and the Jugurthine War, which took place is 112 - 106 BC, both being significant moments in Roman history.
Sallust was a Roman historian and politician, and is the earliest known Roman historian with surviving works.
Translated into English by Arthur Murphy, who also translated some works of Tactius.
Murphy is thought to have coined the legal term "wilful misconstruction" whilst representing the Donaldson v. Becket appeal to the House of Lords in 1774 against the perpetual possession of copyright
